What is a lifestyle blog?
A lifestyle blog is a blog that covers various topics such as cooking, blogging, traveling, hobbies, and much more. A lifestyle is based upon the interests and the activities of the author.
When a person plans to start a blog, the first niche that comes to mind is a lifestyle blog because it sounds easy to them, but in reality, a lifestyle blog niche is competitive based on its popularity.

Examples of Top Successful Lifestyle Blogs
Examples are not just for inspiration; they are also the best way to understand anything. This is why I will share three top successful lifestyle blogs to help you comprehend what a lifestyle blog is and what you should include in your blog.
A Beautiful Mess:
A Beautiful Mess is a lifestyle blog started by two inspiring women named Elisa Larson and Emma Chapman. It is considered one of the top lifestyle blogs. The aim of this blog is to help people become creative while staying at home.
On this blog, you can find twelve years of recipes and step-by-step tutorials for home decoration projects, and crafts, and the blog also covers other topics like blogging, business, and much more.
A Beautiful Mess team also hosts a weekly podcast for their audience.
One Better Living:
Better Living is a blog quite popular in its niche. This blog is not run by one individual but has many great authors who create fun and exciting content for their audience.
There is not much detail about this blog on the About page, but Better Living started back in 2002. The blog writes about travel, health, food, home, and much more. You can find many helpful articles, a wealth of inspiration, and videos on the blog.
The blog has 43.6k Pinterest followers, 105.5k Instagram followers, and 220.4k followers on Twitter. This blog is also on other social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.
Lost Gen y Girl:
Gen Y Girl is another excellent blog created by Kayla Buell. Before having her daughter, she used to work for an advertising agency as a social manager/copywriter, but after having her, she quit her job to spend more time with her.
She has been in the blogging field for seven years now. She is a full-time blogger and a YouTuber.
Gen Y Girl’s blog covers many interesting topics such as motherhood, blogging, career, happiness, beauty, etc.
As you can tell, all of these lifestyle blogs have one thing in common: they are using their blogs to benefit others and earn from them simultaneously.
How To Start A Lifestyle Blog In 2022
1. Why do you want to start a lifestyle blog?
It is essential to figure out why you want to start a lifestyle blog in the first place, what your goals will be, and where you want to take your blog one year from now.
It would be best to ask yourself these questions first, and once you figure out the answers, you can pick your blog’s focus point as in your lifestyle blog categories, and move to the next step.
2. Pick a domain name:
I don’t know how to emphasize this, but picking the right domain name matters a lot. Your blog domain name should define what your blog is about; also, choosing the right name will help your blog rank on Google.
3. Pick a blogging platform:
After choosing a domain name, you need to pick a blogging platform, a.k.a., a content management system. Many platforms have helped people create awesome blogs for decades, for example, WordPress, Blogger, and others.
4. Choose The Right Hosting Company:
If you search on Google, you will find many hosting companies that will promise you the best hosting experience at an affordable price, but the truth is not every hosting company is great. You need to find one that meets your needs.
Bluehost is popular, but as a newbie blogger, it is expensive; this is why I recommend checking out Dreamhost (I tried it, and it is worth it). Read out as many reviews as you can of hosting services and pick the one you find right for you.
5. Find the right theme:
Now comes the best and most challenging part of your blog theme. You can find many beautiful blog themes, especially if you search on Pinterest, but it is always better to buy a theme so, if you have any problem, you can contact the service.
After buying the theme, you can install it on WordPress or any other blogging platform you choose.
6. Understand SEO:
Before writing a blog post, you need to learn at least the basics of SEO. Without knowing anything about search engine optimization, you will be wasting a lot of time writing about stuff that doesn’t even matter.
Taking an SEO course is necessary. You can’t learn everything there is to know about SEO from articles.
My number one recommendation to anyone who is new to SEO or finds it difficult is to check out the Stupid Simple SEO course by Mike Pearson.
Another option is that you can hire an SEO expert, but it is going to be expensive.
7. Launch Your Blog And Start Writing:
Once you know SEO basics, it is finally time to launch your blog and write amazing content. Remember to write posts that will benefit others, especially your first few posts.
Writing helpful posts will drive traffic to your blog faster than usual.
Keep in mind the blogging process will take time and you won’t start getting views and subscribers in one night.
What Should I Write In My First Lifestyle Blog Post?
Here’s a list of 8 lifestyle blog topics you can note down:
- Share Your Story.
- Travel Paces.
- Fun Facts About Yourself.
- Childhood Memories.
- Product Review.
- Hobby.
- Parenting Skills.
- Daily Activities.
How Do Lifestyle Bloggers Make Money?
When it comes to making money with a blog, lifestyle blogs have more opportunities to generate income. Lifestyle blogs have a high chance of becoming a family business.
Four of the most popular ways lifestyle bloggers use to make money:
Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate marketing has helped many bloggers make hundreds and thousands of dollars per month. Lifestyle blogs have a higher chance of making more sales from affiliate links than other blog niches because of the multiple topics covered in the blog. It can target almost any audience. A blogger can expect to get a commission starting from 7 to 30% per sale.
Sponsorships: Sponsorships are another great opportunity for lifestyle bloggers. Sponsorship is when a company pays a blogger to write a piece of content reviewing their product. Since lifestyle blogs target different types of audiences with other interests, they can get more sponsorship offers. Usually, the starting price per post is 100$.
Ads Revenue: There is no doubt that advertising platforms are the best option for bloggers, but the downside is that most companies will require at least 1000 views per day, which means you can not apply for it right after creating your blog. As for “How much can I make with ads revenue?” well, the answer is the earning depends on the quality of your blog traffic.
Sell Your Product: Almost all lifestyle bloggers benefit from their blogs by opening an online shop. Most bloggers only create digital products such as watercolor flower stickers, patterns, and much more. They use their posts to promote their products and earn a decent amount from them.
As a blogger, you can create a blogging course and sell it for 150$ or more.
What Is The Difference Between A Lifestyle And A Personal Blog?
It is important to understand the difference between a lifestyle blog and a personal blog because often, people think a lifestyle blog is the same as a personal blog. Still, in reality, that is not the case. These are two different niches and have their place in the blogging industry.
Here is a quick definition to help you understand the difference between these two:
“A lifestyle blog is a blog where the blogger writes about various topics based upon their interests and activities while a personal blog is a blog where the blogger shares their opinions, stories and daily routine with the audience.”
